The first time I heard the expression "Leader of the free world" was back when Bush & Gore were battling over a vote count. Now I hear it everywhere - even from the news staff in Canada.

Personally the US President does not "lead" me - we have our own Prime Minister thanks - but the bigger question is who started this and why do so many people blindly let these statements continue.
